Iran-backed Iraqi group Kataib Hezbollah released video footage captured by a drone showing an attack on the US Al Nasr base near Baghdad International Airport.
It is believed to be the first time the group has successfully used an attack drone equipped with First Person View technology FPV to penetrate American defensive systems.
Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq, which is backed by Iran, published video footage showing the targeting of the US Victory base near Baghdad International Airport using a drone.
The footage shows a drone equipped with a camera flying over the base, surveying its facilities, then selecting one of the large warehouses and attacking it.
The video also shows a second drone entering the base area, flying above it, then selecting a specific aircraft hangar, striking it, and exploding inside.
This is the first time that the drone known as FPV has appeared in use. The drone is controlled by a person through a live video feed during flight until the moment it dives toward the target and detonates.
This type of drone has become one of the deadly weapons used in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Both armies rely heavily on it, and over the past years, it has caused significant military losses. Despite its small size and the limited explosives it carries, its ability to directly hit targets has made it highly lethal.
