Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that his country’s highest priority at this stage is “to stay away from the pits of fire” spreading across the region, stressing that Turkey is “acting with great caution against plots, traps, and provocations aimed at dragging it into the flames of war.”
Erdogan confirmed on Friday that Turkey is taking the necessary precautionary measures against any threat that violates its airspace.
He also called on the Turkish people to exercise extreme caution regarding “sectarian and ethnic provocations that are being amplified alongside the attacks on Iran,” adding that “as long as we remain united among ourselves, we can break the foreign hands that reach toward our independence and our future.”
In another context, Erdogan expressed sorrow that the Islamic world “is witnessing conflicts, wars, and tears during these blessed days,” reminding that “Gaza, which has lost 72,000 martyrs, still longs for peace despite the ceasefire.”
He pointed out that Israel and settlers have killed more than 1,120 Palestinian civilians in the occupied West Bank over the past two years, in addition to the killing of 640 Palestinians in Gaza, most of them children, women, and elderly people, since the agreement of October 10.
The Turkish president added that “the tragedy of tens of thousands of children in Syria and Gaza whose families were completely wiped out did not receive the same attention as a penguin separated from its flock, due to the false conscience of the virtual world.”
He further stated that “some countries ignored injustice and genocide, while other countries supported the perpetrators of genocide such as Israel,” noting that “except for a very small number of countries, institutions, and organisations with conscience and courage, no one stood against the injustices in our region or sought to stop them.”
Meanwhile, the Turkish Ministry of Defence announced on Friday that NATO air defence systems deployed in the eastern Mediterranean neutralised ballistic munitions launched from Iran that had entered Turkish airspace.
This marks the third time since the beginning of the regional escalation that the Turkish Ministry of Defence has announced the neutralisation of ballistic munitions by NATO defences.
