US President Donald Trump said that the United States carried out a powerful strike against Iran today.
He added, “We have eliminated Iran’s navy and air force, and almost everything is finished,” indicating that “most of Iran’s military capabilities have disappeared, and they almost no longer have radars or air defence systems.”
He continued, “I cannot say when the war will end, and I have my own opinion regarding that,” stressing that “the war against Iran will continue for as long as necessary.”
He pointed out that Iran has suffered massive destruction and that the country is in a very bad situation, with everything on the verge of collapse.
Trump claimed that the United States Central Command had just carried out one of the most powerful air raids in the history of the Middle East.
He added that the air strike completely destroyed every military target on Iran’s Kharg Island.
He continued, “If Iran attempts to obstruct passage through the Strait of Hormuz, I will reconsider the decision to wipe out the oil infrastructure of Kharg Island.”
He stressed that Iran will never possess a nuclear weapon and will never have the ability to threaten the United States, the Middle East, or the world.
Earlier, Trump had hinted at the possibility of launching new military strikes against Iran in the coming days, while also confirming that the United States may resort to militarily escorting oil tankers and commercial ships as they pass through the Strait of Hormuz if circumstances require it, amid escalating military tensions threatening one of the world’s most important maritime energy routes.
Trump said in an interview with Fox News that the US military is ready to provide military protection to vessels crossing the strait, noting that this option remains under consideration if risks to navigation continue. He added, “We will do it if we need to,” while also expressing hope that the United States would not have to take such a step.
Trump’s statements come as the region witnesses rising tensions following the exchange of military strikes between the United States and the Israeli occupation on one side and Iran on the other, raising international concerns about potential disruption to navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly one fifth of global oil trade passes.
