The newspaper Israel Hayom reported that Israel and the United States have prepared an organised plan aimed at creating the necessary conditions to accelerate the fall of the Ayatollah regime in Iran after the end of the war.
According to the newspaper, citing informed sources, the plan includes general elements designed to assist what it described as the oppressed Iranian people in effectively and immediately changing the government in the country.
According to the plan, the primary factor expected to bring about change in the Iranian government is the Iranian people themselves, rather than American or Israeli forces.
In addition, the two countries aim to form an alternative government drawn from the core components of Iranian society, rather than from among the many minorities living in the country, such as Kurds or Azerbaijanis.
Under the original war plan, the Iranian people were not expected to take to the streets at this stage.
On the first day of the war, President Donald Trump addressed the Iranian people, saying: “Take shelter. Stay in your homes. The situation outside is extremely dangerous. Many bombs will fall.”
Trump added that only afterward would citizens be able to “take control of your government. The matter is yours.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also spoke in a similar context last Saturday evening, referring in future terms to the moment when the Iranian people would be called upon to take to the streets.
He said: “The moment of truth is approaching. We are not seeking to divide Iran, but to free it from the yoke of tyranny. Ultimately, liberation from the yoke of tyranny will depend on you. If you stand at the moment of truth, it will not be long before Israel and Iran become brave friends once again.”
Nevertheless, Israel maintains that changing the government depends on the Iranian people themselves, and therefore there is no guarantee that this step will succeed, according to the newspaper.
Sources indicated that efforts to overthrow the rule of the Ayatollahs do not necessarily have to begin immediately after the war ends, nor produce immediate results following the attacks. On the contrary, Israel and the United States are taking into account that such a historic change could occur weeks or even months after the fighting subsides.
Meanwhile, due to the rapid progress of the war plan at a pace faster than originally anticipated, a source familiar with the details estimated that the conflict could last for a shorter period than initial projections.
At the outset, U.S. officials spoke of a war lasting four to five weeks, but it now appears that Israel and the United States may halt their attacks on Iran sooner than expected.
