Iran has warned it will target regional economic centres if its own key facilities come under attack, according to statements attributed to a senior official in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Iranian news agencies quoted Ibrahim Jabbari, a senior commander in the Revolutionary Guard, as saying that Tehran would strike all economic hubs across the region if its primary centres were targeted.
Jabbari did not clarify the exact nature of the targets he referred to. However, Iran has already launched strikes against American bases and military facilities in the Gulf region in response to the war being waged against it by the United States and the Israeli occupation.
“We tell the enemy that if it decides to strike our main centres, we will strike every economic centre in the region,” Jabbari said, according to Iran’s ISNA news agency.
He added: “We have closed the Strait of Hormuz. Oil prices have now exceeded 80 dollars and will soon reach 200 dollars.”
At the same time, Iran denied on Monday that it had targeted oil fields in Saudi Arabia, stating that such facilities were not among its intended targets.
Continued Strikes Across Gulf States
On Tuesday evening, powerful explosions were heard in Dubai and Doha, while earlier explosions had also been reported in Manama.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Revolutionary Guard announced that its naval forces had carried out what it described as a large scale attack using drones and missiles at dawn on the American air base in the Sheikh Isa area of Bahrain.
The Guard also announced that the Al Udeid American base in Qatar had been targeted.
Qatar stated that it had thwarted attempts to strike Hamad International Airport in Doha.
Majed Al Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Qatar had not participated in the war against Iran and was exercising its legitimate right to defend itself and deter Iranian aggression on its territory.
