Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced a ban on the military and security activities of Hezbollah, restricting the party’s role to political engagement.
Speaking at a press conference at government headquarters, Salam stated: “We declare our rejection of any military or security actions launched from Lebanese territory outside the framework of legitimate state institutions.”
He added that the decision would take immediate effect, calling on Hezbollah to hand over its weapons. “We affirm our commitment to the declaration of a cessation of hostilities and to the resumption of negotiations,” he said.
Earlier on Monday, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for shelling occupation sites in the northern occupied territories at dawn.
In a statement, the party said: “We targeted the Mishmar HaCarmel site south of the occupied city of Haifa with a salvo of rockets and drones.”
In response, the occupation launched intense airstrikes on multiple locations in Beirut’s southern suburbs and villages in the Beqaa region.
The occupation army also issued evacuation orders for dozens of towns in southern and eastern Lebanon.
In a statement, the occupation army said: “Residents of 53 villages in southern Lebanon and the Beqaa must evacuate their towns and move at least one kilometre away.”
