The Hebrew newspaper Maariv reported on Sunday alleged details surrounding the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, claiming the developments “will astonish everyone”. The paper further asserted that “Khamenei made the same mistake as Hassan Nasrallah”.
According to the report, “Khamenei ignored the fact that Israel changed on October 7. He did not believe that it would happen to him. He neglected his duty. When the details of his assassination become clear, minds will be stunned.”
The newspaper added: “Israel possessing an image of Ali Khamenei’s body is unimaginable,” describing what it called a strategic shift in which “Iran is now encircled by a belt of fire, and its regime is fighting for its final breaths.”
It continued: “The reality of Iran has been exposed. Its envoys are paralysed by fear or acting with extreme weakness in carrying out their duties. Its senior officials are being eliminated en masse. Its missiles are being launched with extreme caution. Indeed, this situation will not conclude immediately, and the end still lies ahead, but this shift is among the most remarkable transformations in history.”
Maariv emphasised that “most details of what occurred on Saturday, and what will unfold in the coming days, will only be revealed later. Only then will we understand the strength and precision of Israeli intelligence, and our unbelievable intelligence superiority in a country thousands of kilometres away from Israel.”
The paper further stated that “deception operations, intensive intelligence gathering that once again proved its effectiveness in the Iranian capital, along with high levels of precision and coordination, surpass imagination. Nevertheless, it is too early to celebrate. The matter is not over. There will still be difficult moments.”
According to Maariv, Israeli and American attacks initially focused on three primary objectives: assassinating as many military and political leaders as possible, foremost among them Khamenei and senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officials; targeting the maximum number of missiles, launchers, launch tunnels, and launch vehicles.
The third objective, as reported by the newspaper, was to resecure safe air corridors for Israeli and American air force aircraft to Tehran, while destroying Iran’s missile interception systems, radar capabilities, and command and control infrastructure.
The newspaper concluded: “It can be said that these three objectives have been largely achieved,” while acknowledging that “missile launch capabilities still exist, but they have been significantly reduced.”
