Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed surprise at what he described as the notable level of cooperation from the United Arab Emirates, stating that UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed had done what was requested of him, and more.
This was conveyed by US Senator Lindsey Graham, who met with Netanyahu and said he was asked to relay the message to the press.
Graham stated: “Netanyahu asked me to inform you that he is surprised by the level of cooperation and partnership between the UAE and Israel, and that Mohammed bin Zayed has done everything that was asked of him and more.”
He added that, according to Netanyahu, the UAE had been a strong and reliable partner under difficult circumstances.
The 2020 Normalisation Agreements
In 2020, both the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain signed two normalisation agreements with Israel during a ceremony hosted by then US President Donald Trump in his first term, held at the White House garden.
Hours after the signing ceremony, the White House issued three documents: the text of the declaration of the so called “Abraham Accords” between Tel Aviv, Abu Dhabi and Manama; the bilateral normalisation agreement between the UAE and Israel, consisting of four pages and a three page annex; and a copy of Bahrain’s agreement with Israel.
Terms of the Accords
The agreements were based on the establishment of full diplomatic relations and joint cooperation across several fields with Israel. However, they did not stipulate that Israel was obligated to halt the annexation of occupied Palestinian territories, nor even to postpone such plans.
