The British newspaper Daily Mail reported, citing sources it described as informed, that US President Donald Trump issued direct orders to Special Operations Command to prepare a military plan to invade Greenland.
According to the newspaper, this direction was met with firm opposition from the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, who view such a move as a departure from the established military and diplomatic principles of the United States.
Diplomats: The Plan Is “Crazy and Illegal”
In statements cited by the newspaper from a senior diplomatic source, generals at the Department of Defence, the Pentagon, described Trump’s desire as a “crazy and illegal plan”. They warned that proceeding with such an operation would lead to the collapse of international alliances, particularly with Washington’s allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.
These leaks reflect Trump’s longstanding desire to acquire Greenland, an ambition he previously raised as a proposal to purchase the territory. The shift of this aspiration toward invasion planning represents a dangerous escalation in the political doctrine of the White House.
