US President Donald Trump threatened that he could order military strikes against Iran, as the country witnesses widespread demonstrations that began a week ago in protest against deteriorating economic conditions.
Speaking to journalists at the White House, Trump said that Iran is in “major trouble” amid the broad popular protests, and once again warned that he could order military strikes.
He added that he expects “the people to be on the verge of taking control of certain cities, something no one thought was possible just a few weeks ago.”
In response to a question about his message to Iran’s leaders, Trump said, “They had better not start firing because we will start firing too.”
Trump explained that “if they start killing people, as they have done in the past, we will intervene,” clarifying that this does not mean sending ground troops, “but rather hitting them very hard at the point of pain.”
Regarding the situation in Syria, Trump said he wants to see peace in Syria and for it to be a successful country, noting that his country “has a good relationship with the Kurds and the Syrian government.”
The US president added that he believes Syria is on a path toward success, that the crisis has only just begun, and that “we want to see its end.”
Trump then turned to Greenland, affirming that he intends to reach an agreement with Denmark to acquire the island, saying he will achieve his objective either “by soft means or by force.”
He went on to say, “I also admire Denmark, and I should tell you they have been very kind to me,” adding, “but as you know, arriving there by ship 500 years ago does not mean they own the territory.”
He continued, “I would like to make a deal easily, but if we do not do it by soft means, we will do it by force.”
Trump insists that the United States must acquire Greenland to ensure its security, saying, “We cannot allow Russia or China to occupy Greenland, and that is what they will do if we do not.”
