Discriminatory measures against the Muslim community in India have intensified, sparking significant international concerns regarding human rights and religious freedoms. According to a report by Voice of Pakistan, Indian Muslims are facing targeted campaigns aimed at marginalising their sacred sites through rapid and organised state actions.
A prominent example of this trend is the ongoing demolition of the upper floors of the Sanjauli Mosque in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. According to local reports, these actions commenced after government authorities approved funding specifically for the dismantling process. This follows the previous destruction of two other floors of the same mosque.
According to experts cited in the report, these incidents are part of a systematic policy under the government of Narendra Modi to weaken the presence of Muslim institutions and restrict religious liberties. Human rights advocates suggest that these demolitions represent a broader shift toward institutionalised marginalisation, leaving the minority community under increasing pressure within the country’s legal and social framework.
