The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported, citing Palestinian sources, that dozens of armed men belonging to groups described as collaborating with the occupation against the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) have voluntarily surrendered themselves to Hamas security forces in the Gaza Strip within the past forty-eight hours.
According to the sources, the pace of these voluntary surrenders has increased significantly since Friday, particularly in the areas of Rafah and Khan Younis, where the largest armed cells receiving overt support from the Israeli occupation had been active.
This development follows a call issued last Friday by the Ministry of Interior in Gaza, urging individuals involved in criminal networks tied to the Israeli occupation to immediately surrender to the security services to facilitate the handling of their cases and reduce the severity of legal procedures.
A statement from the ministry, released after the killing of Yasser Abu Shabib, the leader of one of the occupation-backed militias in Gaza, affirmed that his death represents an inevitable fate for anyone who entangles himself in collaboration with the occupier.
The ministry added that all those involved in such criminal groups must turn themselves in to allow their cases to be addressed according to the law, noting that surrender would lead to reduced trial measures.
The statement also praised the stance of families, clans, and tribes that publicly distanced themselves from Abu Shabib, stressing that the occupation had created these groups to execute its criminal plans against the Palestinian people.
On Thursday, the Tarabin tribe in Gaza confirmed Abu Shabib’s killing, stating that his blood had closed a chapter of disgrace. In its published statement, the tribe, to which Abu Shabib belonged, said his death marked the end of a dark page that does not reflect the tribe’s history or its principles, adding that he betrayed the trust of his own people and became entangled in collaboration with the occupation.
The Ministry of Interior reiterated that the occupation has failed to undermine the unity and cohesion of the Palestinian people or create fractures within their social fabric. It added that the terrorist gangs formed by the occupation to destabilise the internal front remained isolated and without any grassroots or societal support until they ultimately met their downfall.
In July, the Palestinian factions in Gaza, through their Joint Operations Room, announced that Abu Shabib had been formed, armed, and operated directly by the Israeli army, with its political leadership acknowledging this role. The factions emphasised that this group was rogue and treacherous, serving as a tool in the hands of the occupying power, exploiting the presence of occupation forces while operating under their protection and with their weapons.
