The Israeli occupation army has launched a large-scale military exercise that will continue for one week, involving its naval forces alongside units from the United States Fifth Fleet.
According to a statement issued by the army, the drill is called Intrinsic Defender, and will include dozens of soldiers from the Israeli Navy, as reported by the Anadolu Agency.
The army stated that the purpose of the exercise is to enhance strategic and operational cooperation between the Israeli and American navies, while training participating forces to confront a wide spectrum of regional threats.
The statement did not specify the location of the drill. This exercise comes amid remarks by Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, who said the army is preparing for the possibility of a sudden war, describing this readiness as one of the key pillars of force-building for the coming years.
Tel Aviv and Washington regularly hold joint exercises as part of what Israel describes as an effort to deepen military alliance and increase force readiness in response to what it calls rising security challenges in the region.
On Wednesday, the i24 news channel reported that United States President Donald Trump is expected to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on 26 December.
The channel did not specify the duration or agenda of the visit, and neither Washington nor Tel Aviv has issued an official statement confirming it.
Netanyahu’s office previously announced that Trump had invited him for a meeting at the White House during a recent phone call.
If the date is confirmed, this will be Netanyahu’s fifth visit to the United States since the beginning of Trump’s second presidential term earlier this year.
