When we asked weeks ago, “What was planned for Gaza in the night of Sharm el Sheikh?”, some accused us of pessimism, bad faith, and conspiracy thinking. After all, the occupant of the White House was busy promoting grand slogans about “achieving peace in the Middle East”, echoed by his loyal regional followers whose political function rarely exceeds stamping and approving any message that arrives with the seal of the United States, without thought or strategy.
But let us look at the reality on the ground with clarity, away from pre-packaged rhetoric that neither nourishes nor protects. We are now nearing fifty days of what is called the “alleged truce”. Has the Zionist killing machine stopped for even one day?
Trusted humanitarian and human rights organisations confirm that the number of martyrs has surpassed 374 at the time of writing. And we must keep the count open, as the appetite of these murderers for Palestinian blood is relentless. Among the victims are 136 children killed in airstrikes involving home demolitions and targeted assassinations, alongside near-total restrictions on humanitarian aid, food, medicine, and fuel. Despite all this, we continue to read and hear celebrations of a ceasefire agreement and a truce sponsored by regional and international actors. Who exactly do they think they are fooling?
From Lebanon to Gaza
It appears that Netanyahu and his gang, after their “successful experiment” in Lebanon, where airstrikes continue openly and without deterrence, found these “positive indicators” sufficient to accept a temporary truce in Gaza. The aim was to absorb the global wave of anger toward the occupying regime. But on the ground, little has changed. The machinery of crime continues, and the dimming of media attention has given Netanyahu a perfect opportunity to pursue additional gains he previously failed to achieve, thanks to the resilience and awareness of Gaza’s steadfast population. Even Israeli media and some of its military leadership acknowledge these facts.
The Sharm el Sheikh Trap
It is no longer possible to hide behind polished language to conceal the obvious truth: many actors were complicit in the Sharm el Sheikh production, whose primary objective was the safety, retrieval, and protection of the enemy’s captives. For this reason, the so-called “second phase” remained suspended and undefined from all sides, because its true purpose was the illusion of disarming the resistance and searching for mechanisms to dismantle it. Several Arab actors do not even bother to hide this objective.
The latest to speak plainly was Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, who stated during a visit to Lebanon that Egypt fully supports the Lebanese government’s decision to restrict weapons and is working tirelessly to shield Lebanon from any threats. But while these were his official remarks, multiple media sources described his visit to Baabda Palace as an “Israeli message”: that Hezbollah’s refusal to surrender its weapons and withdraw from the south would mean an imminent Israeli war before the year’s end. Zionist media enthusiastically praised the minister’s statements.
Naturally, what unfolds in southern Lebanon cannot be separated from what is happening in Gaza. The threads are intertwined, and the objective is the same: forcing a white flag over every front that continues to defend dignity and resist the invader. The real disaster is that those paving the road for this beast to consume what remains of Arab land claim to belong to the same nation and repeat its beliefs.
What Comes Next?
The resistance, which has demonstrated strength on both the battlefield and diplomatic fronts, certainly holds cards it will rely on in the coming days. From the first moment, it understood the minefields being prepared under the banners of reconstruction, peace, and other worn-out slogans that no longer deceive even a child. But the continuation of this so-called truce, and the insistence on pretending not to violate it in either Lebanon or Gaza, now requires a different course of action. This applies especially to the Lebanese side, and specifically Hezbollah, which stands at a critical crossroads.
What is truly absurd is the torrent of contradictory statements coming from the Lebanese presidency, which openly raises the banner of surrender and imagines Netanyahu returning to Beirut to raise the Israeli flag. This fantasy is shared by more than one Arab regime today in their pursuit of pleasing Washington and hoping to postpone the moment of reckoning, just as history has shown time after time to those who refuse to study its consequences.
