Israeli occupation forces claimed that five of their soldiers were injured on Wednesday during clashes with Palestinian fighters who, according to the occupation narrative, had emerged from a tunnel in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
The occupation army stated that troops from the Golani infantry brigade clashed with several fighters who emerged from a tunnel in Rafah. As a result, three soldiers from the Golani Brigade were wounded, one of them sustaining critical injuries, while another soldier from the Gaza Division 143 was moderately injured. Meanwhile, the Hebrew-language channel Makan reported that a fifth soldier sustained minor injuries.
The Hebrew site Hadashot Lo Tzensura reported that three armed fighters emerged from one of the tunnels and launched an anti-armour missile at an occupation force. One of them then attached an explosive device to a Namer armoured personnel carrier and detonated it before all three withdrew through a nearby tunnel.
However, Channel 14 reported a different account, stating that a cell of three fighters emerged from a tunnel opening and fired an anti-armour projectile toward the occupation forces. Following face-to-face clashes, two of them were allegedly killed, while the third attached an explosive device to a Namer carrier and withdrew from the area.
No Palestinian factions, including the Al Qassam Brigades, have issued any comment so far. It is believed that an unknown number of their fighters remain besieged in Rafah to this moment.
This development comes at a time when the occupation forces continue to reject any resolution to the crisis of the besieged fighters in Rafah, who found themselves trapped inside areas under occupation control following the ceasefire that came into effect on 11 October last year.
The resistance in Gaza, led by Hamas, exerted efforts through mediators to enable the besieged fighters to withdraw to territories outside the occupation’s control, known as the yellow line. However, the occupation forces have been obstinate, refusing any solution and even initiating strikes on locations believed to shelter some of these fighters, killing several of them in the process.
