Iran’s Revolutionary Guard threatened what it described as a “crushing response” against the Israeli occupation following the assassination of Hezbollah Chief of Staff Hayssam Tabatabai in an airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburb.
In a statement, the Revolutionary Guard said that “the blood of the brave fighters will be avenged, and a crushing response awaits the terrorist enemy at the appropriate time”.
The statement described Tabatabai as “one of the senior commanders of Hezbollah Lebanon, a steadfast leader and a lover of martyrdom in the battles of the Axis of Resistance, who played a prominent role in thwarting the conspiracies of the takfiris”.
The statement stressed that “the Resistance Front, in all arenas — military, political, media, and popular — continues with harmony and a sacred resolve on the path of liberating Jerusalem and uprooting the cancerous tumour represented by the fabricated and usurping Zionist entity, until achieving the final victory over the occupiers in the holy land of Palestine and blessed Jerusalem”.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the assassination of Tabatabai on Monday, saying in a statement that “his assassination constitutes a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreed upon in November 2024, and a brutal assault on Lebanese national sovereignty”.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, mourned the commander Tabatabai on Sunday evening.
In a post on the X platform, he wrote: “On the night of the martyrdom of Lady Fatimah al Zahraa, peace be upon her, one of the sincere followers of the path of the leader of the women of the worlds, the mujahid brother Hayssam Ali Tabatabai, one of the senior commanders in Hezbollah, together with a number of his comrades, was martyred at the hands of the criminal Zionists.”
Larijani added, “They attained what they longed for, but Netanyahu continues his adventures until everyone realises that no path remains except confronting this fabricated entity.”
