U.S. President Donald Trump has once again issued a threat to strike Iran if Tehran attempts to rebuild its nuclear program, asserting that Washington has already “destroyed Iran’s nuclear capabilities.”
Speaking to reporters as he departed the White House on Monday, Trump declared:
“We destroyed Iran’s nuclear program, and I hope they won’t try to rebuild it — because we would have to deal with that.”
The U.S. president added that his administration would “not wait long” if Iran resumed its nuclear activities, signalling the possibility of renewed military action against Tehran.
This warning comes amid heightened tensions following last June’s 12-day Israeli offensive, during which Israeli forces targeted Iranian nuclear facilities, military bases, and civilian sites, and carried out assassinations of senior Iranian commanders, including the Revolutionary Guard chief, the chief of staff, and several prominent nuclear scientists.
In parallel with the Israeli assault, the United States launched airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, after which Trump announced the complete destruction of Iran’s nuclear program.
However, intelligence assessments from Washington later cast doubt on those claims, suggesting that Iran may have retained parts of its nuclear infrastructure despite the attacks.
