The Israeli army continues its ground advances on multiple fronts across Gaza City, coupled with relentless bombardment and demolition of residential neighbourhoods. The declared aim is clear: occupation of the city and the forced displacement of its Palestinian population.
Southwest Axis: Around Al-Quds Hospital
The latest moves saw Israeli forces advancing several hundred metres northwest of Tel al-Hawa in the city’s southwest, reaching Al-Quds Hospital, which is run by the Palestinian Red Crescent.
According to Anadolu Agency, Israeli vehicles also pushed in from the east of the hospital, reaching the Ministry of Prisoners’ Affairs.
The Red Crescent reported that Israeli units are now stationed at the southern gate of Al-Quds Hospital, blocking entry and exit, warning of a direct threat to the safety of patients and medical staff.
Northwest Axis: Al-Nasr and Al-Shifa Vicinity
In the northwest, Israeli vehicles advanced deep into Al-Nasr neighbourhood, reaching the area of Al-Quds Open University and the Al-Mazner junction.
Forces have imposed fire control as far as Al-Shifa Tower at the edge of the district, only 300 metres away from the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, Gaza’s largest hospital.
Israeli forces advanced southward from the Intelligence headquarters and Al-Maqousi Towers area, while also maintaining positions around Al-Karama neighbourhood.
This advance followed intense aerial bombardment on Gaza City’s northwestern quarters, particularly Al-Nasr and Al-Shati refugee camp, with Israeli quadcopter drones firing on civilian homes along Al-Shifa Street.
Northern and Eastern Axes
In the north, Israeli forces have been observed around Al-Saroukh junction (intersection of Al-Jalaa and Al-Saftawi streets), where they sporadically fire at surrounding homes.
From the northeast, Israeli vehicles are positioned near Sheikh Radwan pond, maintaining fire control up to Al-Ghafri junction on Al-Jalaa Street. Explosive-laden vehicles are being driven into residential areas for detonation.
In the east, the army continues to blow up and flatten residential buildings in the neighbourhoods of Al-Zaytoun, Al-Shuja’iya, and Al-Tuffah.
In the southeast, troops have recently pushed into the Al-Sabra neighbourhood.
Earlier, during Operation Gideon’s Chariots 1 in early August, Israeli tanks and heavy machinery entrenched across several axes: northeast of Sheikh Radwan, Jabalia Nazla, and inside Al-Tuffah, Al-Zaytoun, and Al-Shuja’iya.
Forced Displacement of Residents
These incursions have forced thousands of Palestinians in eastern districts to flee westwards. Yet even the western quarters later came under heavy bombardment, driving residents further south.
According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, as of Saturday, around 900,000 Palestinians remain in Gaza City and its northern districts, despite Israel’s ongoing campaign of genocide and destruction.
On 16 September, the Israeli army announced a large-scale ground operation, deploying regular and reserve units from the 98th, 162nd, and 36th divisions.
Back on 8 August, the Israeli government approved a plan by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reoccupy the Gaza Strip step by step, starting with Gaza City, home to roughly one million people.
The offensive began on 11 August, with the assault on the Al-Zaytoun neighbourhood under Operation Gideon’s Chariots 2. The attack involved the use of booby-trapped robots to demolish homes, heavy artillery fire, random shootings, and systematic forced displacement.
Resistance Response: “Moses’ Staff”
In response, the Palestinian resistance launched Operation Moses’ Staff, targeting Israeli troops and vehicles. Resistance factions continue to announce regular operations that kill or wound soldiers and destroy equipment.
Genocide in Numbers
With direct American support, Israel has waged a genocidal war on Gaza since 7 October 2023, leaving behind:
- 65,382 martyrs
- 166,985 wounded – the majority women and children
- 442 famine deaths, including 147 children
This reality underscores the brutality of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza City: occupation, displacement, and collective punishment under the cover of relentless bombardment.
