Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday evening issued a warning to the people of Gaza City, urging them to leave immediately. His remarks came only hours after the Israeli military announced plans to intensify airstrikes across the Strip.
Netanyahu declared:
“In two days, 50 towers have been destroyed — and this is only the beginning of the ground operation in Gaza City. I say to the residents of Gaza: you have been warned, leave now.”
He added that Israeli forces are currently regrouping inside Gaza City in preparation for a major ground offensive.
Boasting about the large-scale destruction, Netanyahu emphasised that the demolition of 50 residential buildings in two days was merely a “prelude” to the main operation, which would involve further demolitions and forced displacement.
Linking Gaza to Jerusalem Attacks
In his address, Netanyahu also referenced a shooting attack in Jerusalem earlier that day, which resulted in multiple Israeli settlers being killed and injured.
Calling it “a difficult day,” Netanyahu insisted that eliminating the Palestinian attackers “was not enough,” nor was pursuing their supporters. He claimed:
“My orders are to strike hard at the dens of terrorism. We have already destroyed three such dens in refugee camps [in the West Bank]. We evacuated residents and destroyed all the infrastructure of terrorism there. My orders are to do the same in other dens.”
These statements were widely interpreted as an admission of Israel’s policy of collective punishment and forced displacement.
Escalating Demolition and Displacement
Netanyahu reiterated his threat to Gaza’s residents:
“Take this opportunity, listen carefully: you have been warned. Leave Gaza now.”
Over the past days, Israeli forces have systematically demolished high-rise residential buildings in Gaza City, leaving thousands of families displaced and subjected to harsh conditions of forced displacement. Observers warn that the objective is to push Palestinians southward, as part of a wider Israeli-American plan for mass expulsion outside the Strip.
On Monday, the occupation army destroyed the al-Ru’ya Tower, a multi-storey residential building housing hundreds of Palestinians in western Gaza City. Residents and displaced families in its vicinity had been given only brief notice to evacuate before the strike.
That same day, Israeli Defence Minister Yisrael Katz threatened to escalate the bombardment of Gaza’s residential towers and vowed to destroy both Gaza and Hamas unless captives were released and weapons surrendered.
