The Global Coalition for Palestine has announced the launch of the World Day of Action for Gaza, scheduled for Saturday, 6 September 2025, with the participation of more than seventy organisations across continents. The initiative aims to end the siege on Gaza and stop what the statement described as “Israel’s ongoing crime of genocide.”
This call comes amid the deepening humanitarian catastrophe Gaza has endured under seventeen years of blockade. Residents have been deprived of food, medicine, and clean water, leaving entire families to face famine and disease in conditions described as “deliberately imposed as a central mechanism of genocide.”
The Freedom Flotilla: A Message at Sea
Coinciding with the announcement, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition is pressing forward with its largest maritime mission this year to challenge Israel’s naval blockade. On 31 August, dozens of ships set sail from the port of Barcelona, joined by vessels from Tunisia and other ports, carrying hundreds of activists from more than 44 countries.
Among the participants are prominent figures such as environmental activist Greta Thunberg and American scholar William Cunningham.
The flotilla’s mission is clear: to open a “humanitarian corridor” that reconnects Gaza with the world and sends an unmistakable message that the enclave will not be left isolated.
Global Actions Across Continents
Events on 6 September will take many forms:
- Candlelight vigils in Málaga, Spain.
- Mass marches in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
- Symbolic protests in the streets of Santiago, Chile.
- More than 25 solidarity events in towns and cities across New Zealand.
The shared objective of these actions is to end the genocide, lift the blockade, and affirm the Palestinian people’s right to live with freedom and dignity.
From Symbolism to Sustained Pressure
The coalition emphasised that 6 September is not a one-time event but a milestone in a long path of solidarity and international pressure. The statement pledged that efforts will continue until “victory and freedom for the Palestinian people” are achieved.
It declared:
“On this day, the world will speak with one voice: Gaza will not be left to starve in silence. We will rise, we will resist, and we will stand together until the siege is broken.”
Gaza Under Total Closure
Since 2 March 2025, Israel has sealed all crossings into Gaza, preventing the entry of food, medicine, and humanitarian supplies. The blockade has pushed the territory into famine despite aid convoys piling up at its borders.
On rare occasions, Israel allows very limited amounts of aid—far below the bare minimum for survival. Most convoys are looted by gangs that the Gaza government says operate under Israeli protection.
With full U.S. backing, Israel has waged a genocidal war on Gaza since 7 October 2023—a campaign of killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement carried out in defiance of global appeals and even rulings from the International Court of Justice ordering its halt.
The toll of this genocide is devastating:
- 63,746 Palestinians martyred, the majority women and children.
- 161,245 wounded.
- Over 9,000 missing.
- Hundreds of thousands displaced.
- Famine deaths: 367 Palestinians, including 131 children.
