Before his martyrdom, Palestinian journalist Anas Al-Sharif left behind a deeply moving will — a testament to his unwavering principles and his lifelong commitment to defending his people and exposing the crimes of the Israeli occupation.
His words were published on his official account on X (formerly Twitter), where he wrote:
“This is my will, my final message. If these words reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice.”
Below is the full will, penned by Anas Al-Sharif in April:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate
Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Allah knows that I gave everything I possessed — my strength, my energy, my voice — to stand by and speak for my people. Since I first opened my eyes to life in the narrow alleys of Jabalia refugee camp, I dreamed that Allah would grant me a long life until the day I could return with my family and loved ones to our original hometown, occupied Asqalan (Al-Majdal). But the Will of Allah comes first, and His decree is carried out.
I have lived every detail of pain, tasted loss and grief many times. Yet I never hesitated for a single day to convey the truth exactly as it was — without distortion or falsification — hoping that Allah would bear witness against those who remained silent, those who accepted our killing, those who suffocated our breaths, and those whose hearts were unmoved by the torn bodies of our children and women, and who did nothing to stop the massacre our people have endured for more than a year and a half.
I urge you to hold on to Palestine — the crown jewel of the Muslim Ummah and the heartbeat of every free person in this world. I urge you to stand by her people, and her innocent children, whose lives were cut short before they could dream, live in safety, and grow in peace. Their pure bodies were crushed under thousands of tonnes of Israeli bombs and missiles, torn apart and scattered across walls.
Do not let chains silence you, nor borders confine you. Be bridges for the liberation of our land and our people, until the sun of dignity and freedom rises over our stolen homeland.
I entrust you with the care of my family:
- My beloved daughter Sham, the light of my eyes, whom I had hoped to watch grow as I dreamed.
- My precious son Salah, whom I wished to guide until he became strong enough to carry my burdens and continue the mission.
- My dear mother, whose blessed prayers were my fortress and my light. I ask Allah to comfort her heart and reward her abundantly.
- My steadfast wife, Umm Salah, Bayan, who the war kept apart from me for long months, yet she remained loyal to the promise, firm like the trunk of an olive tree that never bends, patient and faithful, carrying the responsibility in my absence with strength and faith.
Be their support after Allah, and never abandon them.
If I die, I die firm upon my principles. I bear witness before Allah that I am content with His decree, certain of meeting Him, and assured that what is with Allah is better and everlasting.
O Allah, accept me among the martyrs, forgive my past and future sins, and make my blood a light that illuminates the path of freedom for my people and my homeland.
Forgive me if I have fallen short. Pray for me with mercy, for I have kept my covenant, neither changing nor betraying. Do not forget Gaza… and do not forget me in your righteous prayers for forgiveness and acceptance.
