The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip has issued a stark warning, declaring that the so-called “humanitarian truce” announced by the Israeli occupation will be meaningless unless it translates into a genuine opportunity to save lives—amid the cries of the wounded and the hunger-stricken children across the besieged territory.
“Each Delay Measured by a Funeral”
In a statement released on Sunday, Dr. Munir Al-Bursh, Director General at the Ministry, described the situation as catastrophic:
“Under a temporary truce suffocated by hesitation and international silence, the wounded are pleading, the children are starving, and mothers are collapsing over the ruins of whatever remains of life.”
Al-Bursh called for the immediate medical evacuation of critically wounded patients—those with brain injuries, spinal trauma, and others requiring complex surgeries beyond Gaza’s capabilities. He warned that many of these patients will die without urgent transfer for treatment abroad.
He also demanded the urgent entry of medical and nutritional supplies, specifically therapeutic milk for infants, high-protein supplements, and calorie-dense nutritional aid—items that are in acute shortage due to the total blockade.
He stressed:
“This truce will mean nothing unless it becomes a real opportunity to save lives. Every delay is measured by another funeral, and every silence means another child dying in their mother’s arms—without medicine, without milk.”
Hamas: A Superficial PR Stunt by the Occupation
In a separate statement, the Hamas movement condemned the Israeli claim that it would allow aid airdrops over Gaza, describing the move as “a superficial and deceptive step aimed at whitewashing Israel’s image before the world.”
Hamas asserted that the entry of food and medical aid is a basic humanitarian right, not a favour, and demanded the full and unhindered flow of aid into Gaza to halt the escalating humanitarian disaster caused by the occupation’s blockade and military campaign.
A Tactical Ceasefire Amid Genocide
Earlier on Sunday, the Israeli army announced what it called a “local tactical suspension of military activity” in select areas of Gaza to allow humanitarian aid to pass through.
This temporary measure comes amid an ongoing genocide and enforced famine targeting more than 2.4 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip—under a suffocating siege that has lasted for months.
The Worst Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza’s History
Gaza is now enduring the most severe humanitarian catastrophe in its modern history, where famine is compounded by a genocidal war launched by the Israeli regime with direct American support since October 2023.
To date, the aggression has resulted in over 204,000 Palestinians killed or injured, the vast majority being children and women. In addition, over 9,000 remain missing, and hundreds of thousands have been forcibly displaced. The famine alone has claimed countless lives, and the suffering continues unabated.
