Former U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed shock over the ongoing corruption trial of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, declaring that the United States — which, in his words, “saved Israel,” — will now be the one to save Netanyahu.
Posting on his Truth Social account on Thursday, Trump wrote:
“I was shocked to learn that the State of Israel — which just witnessed one of the greatest moments in its history, led by the powerful Bibi Netanyahu — is still pushing forward this ridiculous and insane campaign against him.”
Trump went on to describe Netanyahu as a “wartime prime minister” who had stood shoulder-to-shoulder with him in confronting what he called a “long-term, dangerous, and intelligent enemy of Israel — Iran.”
“We went through hell together,” Trump claimed. “No one was sharper, stronger, or more in love with his land than Bibi at that moment.”
“Anyone else would have crumbled under pressure. But Bibi was a fighter — maybe the greatest in Israel’s history. The result? The complete dismantling of what could’ve soon become one of the most dangerous nuclear weapons programs in the world.”
Trump continued his tirade, stating:
“We were literally fighting for the survival of Israel, and no one has fought harder or more effectively in its history than Bibi Netanyahu. And yet — despite all this — I just learned he’s being dragged back into court this Monday to continue a years-long politically motivated case. He’s been facing this nightmare since May 2020 — completely unprecedented! This is the first time a sitting Israeli prime minister is being tried while in office.”
The former president described the charges — which include receiving gifts such as cigars and cartoon character memorabilia — as part of a “political witch hunt” aimed at severely damaging Netanyahu.
“To me, it’s unthinkable that a man who gave so much to Israel is being subjected to this political persecution. He deserves far better — and so does the State of Israel.”
Trump concluded by demanding:
“The trial of Bibi Netanyahu must be immediately cancelled — or he must be granted a pardon as a heroic figure who gave everything to the state. Maybe no one I know has ever worked more effectively with a U.S. President — me — than Bibi. America saved Israel once. Now, America must save Bibi Netanyahu. We cannot allow this sham called ‘justice’ to continue!”
