The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has officially announced the deployment of the Kheibar ballistic missile in its ongoing confrontation with the Israeli occupation. This move comes amid a series of missile strikes launched by Iran in recent days, causing widespread destruction across targeted areas.
The Kheibar missile—also known as Khorramshahr-4—is a key addition to Iran’s advanced ballistic arsenal. Known for its long range, high destructive power, and hypersonic speed, the missile represents a significant escalation in Iran’s strategic deterrence capabilities.
Unveiled in May 2023, the Kheibar is an upgraded version of the Khorramshahr missile series. Its reveal coincided with Iran’s commemoration of the liberation of Khorramshahr during the Iran-Iraq war—an event deeply symbolic in the country’s military narrative.
The missile has a range of 2,000 kilometers, effectively covering the entirety of occupied Palestinian territories, and is capable of carrying a massive 1,500-kilogram warhead. It can be equipped with various types of warheads, including explosive and fragmentation payloads, making it adaptable for different strike objectives.
One of the Kheibar’s defining features is its hypersonic velocity—traveling at Mach 16 outside the atmosphere and Mach 8 within, making interception extremely difficult. Its advanced design significantly reduces radar visibility and enhances targeting accuracy.
Powered by liquid fuel and fitted with the Arvand-class engine, the missile boasts superior maneuverability and terminal-phase guidance. It uses a precision targeting system that operates without aerodynamic fins, thereby minimising its radar cross-section and improving its strike precision.
Due to these specifications, military analysts view the Kheibar missile as a serious threat to Israel’s missile defense systems, including Iron Dome and Arrow (Hetz). Its combination of range, speed, and payload capacity positions it as a formidable asset in Iran’s military strategy and a potential game-changer in any future regional escalation.
