Former U.S. President Donald Trump has issued what he described as a final two-week deadline for Iran to return to negotiations, stating:
“Two weeks is the right amount of time to see whether the Iranians come to their senses or not.”
Speaking to reporters, Trump added that he would consider supporting a ceasefire “depending on the circumstances,” and reiterated that Iran has no interest in negotiating with Europe but is willing to talk directly with the United States.
“We will talk to Iran and see what happens next,” Trump said, before adding a notable military assessment:
“Israel is doing well militarily, but it cannot eliminate all of Iran’s nuclear facilities.”
Trump also remarked that Iran is the side currently “suffering,” and acknowledged,
“I don’t know how the fighting could stop, and I can’t make a final decision on Iran yet.”
White House Confirms Trump Will Decide on Intervention Within Two Weeks
On Thursday, the White House confirmed that Donald Trump is expected to make a final decision within the next two weeks regarding a potential U.S. military intervention in the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, quoting a message from Trump, told reporters:
“Given that there is a significant possibility for future negotiations with Iran — which may or may not happen — I will make my decision on intervention in the coming two weeks.”
Leavitt further clarified that Trump remains interested in pursuing a diplomatic solution with Iran. However, his top priority remains preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
She emphasised that any potential agreement must:
- Prohibit Iran from enriching uranium
- Completely dismantle Iran’s ability to develop a nuclear weapon
“Diplomacy Through Strength — But Not Afraid of Force”
“President Trump is always open to diplomacy… He is a master peacemaker. He believes in peace through strength,” Leavitt added.
“If there’s an opportunity for diplomacy, the President will seize it — but he’s also not afraid to use force if necessary.”
When asked whether Trump would seek congressional approval for any future strikes on Iran, Leavitt declined to answer.
Reports of Approved Military Plans — Without Final Order
On Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had already approved detailed military strike plans against Iran, though he had not yet given the final order to execute them.
According to three individuals familiar with the matter, the former president was holding off on the final command to see whether Iran might step back from its nuclear programme.
In parallel, Axios reported that senior U.S. officials had confirmed Trump’s desire to ensure that any strike on Iran would be absolutely necessary and would not drag the U.S. into a prolonged war in the Middle East.
U.S. Military Buildup in Support of Israel
As the Israeli regime continues its military offensive against Iran, the United States has ramped up its regional military posture.
According to The Wall Street Journal, a fourth American destroyer has joined three others already stationed in the eastern Mediterranean, while two additional destroyers are now positioned in the Red Sea.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Navy’s aircraft carrier USS Nimitz is reportedly nearing the Middle East after leaving the South China Sea. According to Fox News, it is expected to arrive either on Saturday or Sunday, further reinforcing American military presence in support of Israel’s week-long campaign against Iran.
