The military wing of Hamas, Al-Qassam Brigades, announced on Thursday its responsibility for sniping an Israeli soldier and destroying three Israeli Merkava tanks in both Gaza City and northern Gaza.
In a statement posted on its official Telegram channel, Al-Qassam reported that its fighters returned from the frontlines on June 15 and confirmed the destruction of three Merkava tanks using high-powered explosive devices planted east of Jabalia, in northern Gaza. The fighters, according to the statement, “witnessed the dismembered remains of the tanks scattered across the battlefield.”
In a separate announcement, Al-Qassam also claimed that its sniper units shot an Israeli soldier near Al-Muntar Road in the Shuja’iyya neighbourhood of Gaza City on June 6.
Islamic Jihad Brings Down Advanced Israeli Drone
In a parallel operation, Saraya al-Quds, the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, declared that its forces successfully intercepted and seized a sophisticated Israeli drone — identified as a MATRICE 600. The drone, which was flying over Al-Tuffah neighbourhood in eastern Gaza, was reportedly armed with aerial bombs and mortar rounds designed for vertical attack.
Mounting Israeli Military Casualties and Accusations of Censorship
Since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, over 866 Israeli military personnel have been confirmed killed — including 422 deaths since the start of the ground invasion on October 27.
Official data also shows 5,930 Israeli soldiers and officers wounded, with 2,693 injuries sustained during ground operations inside Gaza.
These figures encompass casualties from operations in Gaza, the West Bank, southern Lebanon, and within Israel itself. However, the Israeli army has been repeatedly accused of concealing the true scale of its losses, particularly in light of numerous public claims by Palestinian resistance factions regarding ambushes, sniper attacks, and tactical operations that allegedly inflicted significant fatalities and injuries.
Context: Palestinian Resistance Responds to Ongoing Genocide in Gaza
The recent operations by Palestinian resistance movements are part of a broader response to the Israeli-led campaign of genocide in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023, with full backing from the United States.
This war has involved deliberate targeting of civilians, mass starvation, the destruction of entire neighbourhoods, forced displacement, and the disregard of international law — including rulings by the International Court of Justice ordering an end to the assault.
So far, this U.S.-backed genocide has resulted in over 183,000 Palestinian casualties, including both martyrs and wounded — the vast majority being children and women. Over 11,000 remain missing, presumed dead under the rubble. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and famine conditions have claimed the lives of many, especially infants and young children.
This work demands time, pressure, and sacrifice.
But we do it—for the Ummah, and for the truth.
