Two Israeli occupation soldiers were killed and at least 11 others wounded in fierce clashes and ambush operations in the southern Gaza Strip, particularly in Khan Younis, amid a growing toll on the Israeli military in the face of Palestinian resistance.
According to the Hebrew daily Yedioth Ahronoth, Reserve Captain Tal Moshevovitz, deputy commander of the 7086 Engineering Battalion under the elite Golani Brigade, was killed by an explosion in southern Gaza. Several other soldiers were injured in the same incident.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a Palestinian resistance unit had set up a coordinated ambush, detonating an explosive device and opening fire on Israeli troops. The targeted unit was part of the Israeli cavalry forces operating in the area.
In a separate incident, another Israeli soldier was reportedly killed in Khan Younis, although the occupation army declined to provide further details.
On Sunday, the Israeli military confirmed the death of another unit commander during fighting in Gaza. A day earlier, Sergeant Major (res.) Naom Shamash, a 21-year-old squad leader from Jerusalem serving in the Kfir Brigade, was killed by anti-tank fire in Khan Younis. Another soldier sustained minor injuries in the attack.
Roughly ten days earlier, four Israeli soldiers were killed when a building collapsed on them in Bani Suheila, near Khan Younis — highlighting the hazardous urban terrain and resistance tactics the occupation army is struggling to overcome.
Rising Israeli Casualties
According to Israeli army statistics, 863 Israeli soldiers have been killed since the beginning of the war on October 7, 2023 — 420 of them in Gaza. The total number of wounded has climbed to 5,921, with 2,687 injured in ground operations inside the besieged enclave.
However, these figures are widely viewed as manipulated or underreported, as the Israeli army is often accused of concealing the real extent of its casualties. Numerous announcements by Palestinian resistance factions detailing successful operations are frequently ignored or left unacknowledged by official Israeli channels.
Resistance Operations Escalate
The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, confirmed on Saturday that their fighters had struck a Merkava tank using a Tandem-charge projectile near the Abu Sharikh intersection in the “Batn Al-Samin” area, south of Khan Younis.
In another statement, Al-Qassam reported that on June 8, 2025, its fighters sniped the driver of an Israeli military bulldozer on Al-Mintar Street, east of the Shuja’iyya neighborhood in Gaza City.
That same day, Al-Qassam announced a complex ambush operation in Khan Younis, resulting in multiple Israeli casualties — a claim the occupation military has yet to comment on.
As of now, Israeli military deaths have exceeded 866, including over 422 soldiers killed since the ground invasion began on October 27. Meanwhile, injuries have surpassed 5,930, with over 2,693 occurring in direct combat within Gaza.
These numbers also include casualties from other fronts, including the occupied West Bank, Lebanon, and within “Israel” itself.
Hiding the Truth, Avoiding Accountability
Despite the growing toll, the Israeli military is facing increasing criticism for allegedly concealing its losses. Resistance factions regularly publish details of operations — including ambushes, sniper attacks, and anti-tank strikes — that contradict the official Israeli narrative.
This comes in the broader context of Palestinian resistance to the U.S.-backed Israeli genocide being carried out in Gaza since October 7, 2023. The brutal campaign has included mass killing, starvation, forced displacement, and deliberate destruction of civilian infrastructure — all while ignoring international pleas and rulings by the International Court of Justice demanding an end to hostilities.
According to the latest humanitarian reports, the Israeli war — with direct American support — has led to over 183,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, in addition to more than 11,000 missing persons and hundreds of thousands displaced. Famine has claimed the lives of many, including infants and children.
This work demands time, pressure, and sacrifice.
But we do it—for the Ummah, and for the truth.
