The Al-Qassam Brigades revealed that their fighters carried out a complex ambush against Israeli occupation forces advancing in the Al-Atatra area of Beit Lahia, in the northwest of the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, Al-Qassam confirmed that its fighters returned safely from the front lines and had executed a “multi-layered ambush in the Al-Atatra area west of Beit Lahia in the northern sector.”
During the ambush, Al-Qassam fighters targeted three Zionist military vehicles using two Shawaz explosive devices and a tandem rocket, followed by direct engagements using light weapons and hand grenades against a separate Zionist force.
The brigades stated that their fighters managed to leave the enemy force “killed and wounded,” and noted that Israeli helicopters were observed landing to evacuate casualties last Friday.
On May 9, the number of confirmed Israeli military deaths—whose names the army allowed to be published—rose to 856 officers and soldiers since October 7, 2023, including 8 soldiers killed since the resumption of the genocide campaign in Gaza on March 18, according to figures published on the Israeli military’s official website.
Data also indicates that 5,758 officers and soldiers have been injured since the start of the war, including 2,588 during ground battles inside the Gaza Strip.
Contrary to its official announcements, the Israeli military is widely accused of concealing the true extent of its casualties, particularly in light of repeated claims by Palestinian resistance factions that their operations and ambushes have resulted in dead and wounded among Israeli forces.
The Israeli government enforces strict military censorship on local media regarding its human and material losses from Palestinian attacks, mainly to preserve domestic morale.
