The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, have revealed new details about a recent ambush in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza, during which four Israeli soldiers were shot, and the driver of a tank was killed, according to the group’s military statement.
In a communiqué issued on Thursday, Al-Qassam stated:
“As part of Operation ‘Breaking the Sword’, our fighters successfully sniped four soldiers and officers of the Israeli occupation army yesterday, causing fatalities and injuries along Al-Awda Street, east of Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza.”
Earlier this week, Al-Qassam had published footage of the initial “Breaking the Sword” ambush, which targeted an Israeli military unit east of Beit Hanoun last Saturday.
The video footage, released on Monday, showed Al-Qassam fighters emerging from a tunnel opening and observing Israeli military vehicles moving along Al-Awda Street near the Gaza separation barrier. They then launched a direct assault on an Israeli military jeep (Storm model) from point-blank range, causing it to overturn and neutralising those inside.
Al-Qassam clarified that its fighters also targeted the Israeli reinforcement unit that rushed to the scene, striking it with a T3 anti-personnel explosive device.
Furthermore, the footage showed Al-Qassam fighters shelling a newly established Israeli military position with four RPG rounds and multiple mortar shells.
