And New Zealand police announced today, Friday, in a statement, that they shot dead a man who stabbed and wounded at least five people in an Auckland shopping mall.
The statement added: “Police can confirm that a man entered a shopping center in the suburb of New Lane (Auckland) and injured several people.”
And the police continued: “The police located the man and shot him, killing him on the spot.”
The police have not yet found a motive for the attack.
For her part, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said: “Six people were injured in the stabbing attack in a store in Auckland, and the perpetrator of the stabbing in Auckland was killed, and the police killed him only 60 seconds after the attack began.”
The New Zealand Prime Minister described the attack as a terrorist act carried out by a person of Sri Lankan citizenship, noting that the attacker was influenced by the ideas of ISIS, which has a Wahhabi religion.
