A prominent Iranian figure has confirmed that former U.S. President Donald Trump sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, calling for an end to decades of hostility and urging a shift toward mutual respect and cooperation.
According to Mohammad Sadeghiyan, Director of the Arab Center for Iranian Studies, Trump’s message — shared via a post on the platform X (formerly Twitter) — focused on Iran’s nuclear programme and expressed a readiness to move beyond conflict. Sadeghiyan described the communication as “a historic opportunity” that both nations must not ignore.
Trump’s message read:“Your Eminence, Ayatollah Khamenei — with full respect for your leadership and for the Iranian people, I extend this message with the aim of opening a new chapter in our relationship, one far from decades of conflict and misunderstanding.”
Trump stressed that “the time has come to move past enmity and pursue cooperation and mutual respect. We now have a historic opportunity that must be seized.”

He added:
“Under my leadership, the United States is prepared to take a major step toward peace and de-escalation. Together, we can lift sanctions, boost the Iranian economy, and open doors for collaboration between our two nations.”
However, Trump also issued a stern warning, writing:
“But I caution you: If this opportunity is rejected and the Iranian regime continues to escalate, our response will be swift and decisive. Peace is not a sign of weakness — it is the choice of the strong. The Iranian people are a great nation who deserve a better future, free from isolation and economic hardship.”
The letter concluded with a final note:
“If you are ready to negotiate, so are we. But if you ignore the demands of the international community, history will record that a precious opportunity was lost.”
