Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates responded on Tuesday to maps published by official Israeli accounts, allegedly portraying “historical Israel” and including parts of the occupied Palestinian territories, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.
In a press release, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the publication of these maps on Israeli official social media accounts. The timing coincided with inflammatory statements from Israel’s far-right Finance Minister, advocating for the annexation of the West Bank and the establishment of settlements in the Gaza Strip.
Jordanian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sufyan Al-Qudah reaffirmed the Kingdom’s absolute rejection of these policies and incitement. He emphasized that such actions and statements deny Palestinians their legitimate right to establish an independent, sovereign state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital.
Strong Condemnation of Provocation
Al-Qudah stressed that these actions do not undermine Jordan nor diminish the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He described the claims and illusions propagated by extremists within the Israeli government as a flagrant violation of international norms and laws. He further warned that such provocations perpetuate cycles of violence and conflict.
Jordan called for a clear and firm international stance to condemn these actions and caution against their dangerous consequences for the region’s security and stability. Al-Qudah urged the Israeli government to immediately cease its provocative behavior and inflammatory rhetoric by its officials.
He underscored that such rhetoric, which has no place except in the minds of extremists, fuels conflicts and poses a grave threat to international peace and security.
