In a new effort to prevent any Israeli escalation against Syria, Russian forces stationed in Syria have announced the reinforcement of their presence at nine observation points near the disengagement zone on the borders of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, spanning the countryside of Daraa and Quneitra.
Response to Israeli Aggression
This move comes amidst rumors in the media about Russian troop withdrawals from some of these observation points, coinciding with Israeli actions to construct a “technical wall” along the Golan frontier. These developments also unfold against the backdrop of Israel’s ongoing genocidal campaign in Gaza, large-scale aggression in Lebanon, and continued attacks on Syria.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that the reinforcement was requested by the Syrian government as part of its cooperation with Russia. Deputy Commander of Russian Forces in Syria, General Alexander Rodionov, stated that Russian forces have established nine positions along the disengagement zone to conduct aerial and ground monitoring operations. These efforts, he noted, contribute to “enhancing stability and security” and “helping residents return to their lands and resume their normal lives.”

Historical Context
Before 2018, this area witnessed the presence of armed opposition factions supported by Israel. However, a reconciliation agreement mediated by Russia led to the relocation of militants wishing to leave to northern Syria. Following this, Russia played a significant role in calming the region and paving the way for the restoration of Syrian state institutions.
Russia’s bolstered presence in the Golan aims to deter Israeli military actions while supporting Syria’s sovereignty and stabilization efforts. This move underscores Moscow’s strategic commitment to maintaining its influence in the region and mitigating further escalations amid ongoing regional conflicts.
