Leaked footage from Megiddo Prison, located in the occupied territories of 1948, has exposed the brutal treatment of Palestinian prisoners, revealing acts of torture and abuse inside Israeli prisons.
The video clips and images show dozens of prisoners, forcibly removed from their cells, hands bound behind their backs, and thrown face down on the ground, some wearing only their undergarments. Heavily armed guards and police dogs surround the prisoners, adding to the atmosphere of fear and intimidation.
In one video, a prison guard is seen using a vicious police dog to terrorize the prisoners, dragging the dog over their heads while they are bound on the ground, one after another.
According to reports from the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz, prisoners in Megiddo revealed that guards take detainees to areas not covered by surveillance cameras to subject them to severe beatings, targeting sensitive areas of their bodies.
A senior official from the Israeli Prison Service acknowledged the extreme violence faced by prisoners in Megiddo but described the abuse as “routine actions.”
Hundreds of testimonies and photos have emerged, documenting the horrific torture endured by Palestinian prisoners since October 7th. These acts include severe beatings, prolonged torture, denial of basic rights such as mattresses, blankets, food, water, and hygiene products.
Numerous images show prisoners who have been released from Israeli prisons with severe weight loss, deprived of medical treatment during one of the darkest and most brutal periods in the history of the Palestinian prisoners’ movement.
As of today, the death of 21 prisoners from Gaza in Israeli prisons has been confirmed, while the fate of dozens of martyrs remains unknown, with families still awaiting information on their whereabouts.
Currently, there are around 9,900 prisoners and detainees in Israeli prisons, including 1,584 prisoners from Gaza, classified by the occupation as “illegal combatants.” Additionally, an unknown number of detainees are held in military camps.
