The attribute of mercy is one of the most important attributes that was manifested in the personality of the Prophet, peace, and blessings be upon him, because of that of winning people’s hearts, wrapping them around him, and their entry into Islam, and the grace of Allah that he sent people a messenger merciful to them, soft with them, he is more merciful to Muslims than their parents, so Allah Almighty described him by saying in Quran:

 (حَريصٌ عَلَيكُم بِالمُؤمِنينَ رَءوفٌ رَحيمٌ)

Meaning a lot of mercy towards them, loves the goodness for them and guides them to it, hates them evil and avoids it.

According to the Prophet’s biography, there are many situations in which the manifestations of the Prophet’s mercy – may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him – were manifested in the Muslims of his nation, including the weak, children, women, the sick, and companions, as well as animals and inanimate objects, in many situations, including the following:

The mercy of the Holy Prophet to children

There are many positions of the Prophet Muhammad about his mercy to children, the most prominent of which is that if he was praying with people in the congregation and he heard a child crying, he would hurry up in prayer and ease it, and he, upon him be peace and blessings, would carry the young while he was praying, and if he prostrated he would put them on the ground, and if he got up, he would carry them, as he did with his granddaughter Umama bint Zainab – may Allah be pleased with her -, and he was patient with their annoyance, weeping and mourning for their death.

The Prophet commands the good treatment of the weak

Muhammad, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, cared about the weak, and commanded their good treatment, and recommended them and the fulfillment of their rights. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said, while he recommended people to the servants who work for them

The Prophet Muhammad was the kindest of people to his wives and daughters

He, peace and blessings be upon him, was the kindest of people to his family, wives, and daughters, so when Fatimah – may Allah be pleased with her – came to him, he would kiss her and make her sit in his place. And if the Mother of the Believers Safiya – may Allah be pleased with her – wanted to ride on the camel, he would sit and raise his knee for her so that she could climb on it and ride the camel. and more than this e stressed on treating women and girls, he said – peace be upon him:

 (أَلَا واسْتَوْصُوا بالنساءِ خيرًا، فإنما هُنَّ عَوَانٌ عندَكم، ليس تَمْلِكُونَ منهن شيئًا غيرَ ذلك إِلَّا أن يَأْتِينَ بفاحشةٍ مُبَيِّنَةٍ)

The mercy of our master Muhammad with his soldiers and the martyrs during the battles

The Prophet of Allah used to treat his soldiers like himself and did not reprimand them or punish them for their mistakes in the war, and that included his mercy towards the companions – may Allah be pleased with them – in the Battle of Uhud, and not prosecuting them for their mistakes in violating his orders. For the martyrs, he used to barry them and send them to their families to return them to their places; So that people realize their merit, and ease the affliction and grief for their families.

How did the Prophet mercifully deal with the prisoners?

He – may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him – was ordering the release of the captive, and he indicated that mercy to the captive and the release of his captivity is one of the reasons for entering Paradise. By taking the ransom from them and leaving them, for what he saw in that of mercy and compassion for them, and he took into account the material condition of the prisoners, who did not have money, the Prophet ransomed it, and some of them were released without ransom.

The Prophet forbade representation in the body of enemies

The Prophet established for the Muslims a set of rules and controls in jihad that no one is allowed to transgress, such as the prohibition of mutilating the body of enemies, and the prohibition of killing women, children, the elderly, and the sick. animals, or burning trees, Allah Almighty said in Quran:

(وَلَا تَعْتَدُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ)

The Prophet recommends care and compassion for the sick

The Prophet used to command visiting the sick, pitying them, taking care of them, and bringing joy to their hearts, and many prophetic hadiths were urging this, such as the saying of the Prophet – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him -:

(مَن عادَ مَرِيضًا لَمْ يَزَلْ في خُرْفَةِ الجَنَّةِ، قيلَ يا رَسولَ اللهِ، وما خُرْفَةُ الجَنَّةِ؟ قالَ: جَناها)

The Prophet did not want to harm the infidels

When the King of the Mountains came to the Messenger, peace, and blessings be upon him, to apply the mountains to the infidels after they returned him, fought him, and tortured him, the Prophet did not accept that, and he said to him

And when he entered Mecca after he conquered it humbly, and he pardoned those who harmed him from among the polytheists, and those who expelled him and his companions from their homes, and not praying for them, and his eagerness to convert them to Islam, it was reported from him that he visited a Jewish neighbor of his and asked him to enter Islam, so he embraced Islam, and the Prophet rejoiced. -peace be upon him- by his conversion to Islam and saving him from the fire.

The Prophet forbade cruelty to animals

The Prophet’s guidance for compassion for animals begins in a balance that combines the benefit of man, and between mercy and kindness, so he commands to be kind to animals and not to be cruel to them, and then it is not allowed to tamper with animals or harm them or assign them what is difficult for them, and he does not agree with the words of some contemporary animal welfare groups that call for the prevention of totally killing animals, under the pretext of being gentle with them and protecting their rights, and also that it is not permissible to torture or starve them, or assign them what they cannot bear, or take them as a target, something that humanity has not attained at any time, not even in our present age, which has increased It contains writings on animal welfare.

Prophet Muhammad speaking to the trunk of a palm tree

The Prophet has situations with inanimate objects and many events, the trunk yearns for his parting, the pebbles swim in his palm, the trees across the ground in response to his request, the water springs from between his fingers, the stone greets him, and the mountain proves the disturbance with him and his two companions, they are miracles, for the messenger, and clear evidence On the veracity of his prophecy.

On the authority of Jaber – may God be pleased with him, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon him) was preaching to the trunk of a palm tree, so a pulpit was taken for him, and when he left the trunk and went to the pulpit that had been made for him, he cut the trunk and yearned for him as the camel yearns, and in the wording of pottery is like the bellows of a bull. In another wording: The palm tree shouted like a little boy’s cry until he cracked and an inch, so the Prophet – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him – came down and embraced him, so I made the groan of the boy who was still, so he slumbered, and the Messenger (peace be upon him) said to him: (Choose that I plant you in the place where you were, so you will be as I was, and if I wanted to plant you in Paradise so that you drink from its rivers and springs, then your plants will ripen and bear fruit, and the righteous will eat from you, so choose the hereafter over this world.)
